Thanks for the help IDing this thing. I have always liked odd-ball plants, so this one fits fine. It is an eye-catcher and does stink to attract flies as pollinators as can be seen in the pics.
The long, golden grass. It is about 1.5 feet tall.
I was given this plant a couple years ago but the owner didn't know just what it is so I am putting it out to see if anyone might recognize it even before the bud opens since the leaves are visible and the bud is rather distinctive. It looks like it may open any day now.
The person who gave it to me said they called it a death plant and I can't remember why they decided on such a strange name.

An orange flower plant about 1.5 feet tall.
At pepperwood preserve, unkown plant.
Was found dead, appeared to have been attacked, bones were scattered and both of the heads had been removed. There was another one near it.
