Snow geese annoy farmers. We first wondered why the snow geese took flight (they were a couple hundred meters away from us and the highway), but then saw the person who was shooting into the air to frighten them to the next field. It worked.

This was spectacular to hear and see. The road is behind a tree windbreak, so both observer and ducks are obscured, but I just loved listening and being so close to a big calm flock of pintails doing their thing in a flooded field.

A male Eurasian wigeon, the reddish-headed one, mixed in with American wigeon. This rare bird observation was a rare one for us because we saw it serendipitously - most of our other rare bird observations were first noted on eBird. Nice to see from the great refuge viewing platform at the end of the Pine Grove Trail.
