American Coot Fulica americana

Description

This coot was sitting in the road in the opposite lane I was traveling in. I stopped, turned my vehicle around and managed to entice it to move out of the roadway (it was still dark that morning, and the fowl could not be easily seen).
I assume it was injured or sick, and managed to scoot away quickly when I approached it, but it was not inclined to move at all until I was close.
There was no blood on the road under it, nor did there appear to be any fishing line attached to it when it scurried away. It was nowhere to be seen in the area later that evening, so I am hoping it survived.

Description

We saw this red phase owl at a glance in the morning. When we came back through this route, it was still there, and obviously injured. We notified the OH Dept. of Wildlife, and were referred to 2nd Chance Wildlife. Their raptor team will come to our house to pick up this animal. We are keeping it calm in a dark place, and not feeding it, or disturbing it until then.
