Sagehen creek Trail
there were a lot of these low plants lined up along the middle of the trail
showing Witch's Broom of unknown origin within it
This is the usual site of a patch of Hiker's Gentian, which is almost over for the season.
This is the first time I've seen Alpine Gentian here.
Poor little guy hopping around in the willows with a broken wing. Should be okay while the grass seeds last, but not long for this world after that :(
These are the largest, strappiest D. anglica leaves I've seen in the basin.
A wide-ish shot to show plant community. Gray's is supposed to be parasitic on Asteraceae, and seems to appear here next to yarrow pretty often, though there are also a lot of Arnica around.
Most are dried up now.
This plant seems to like rocks and downed logs. Maybe more water? Habitat shown in second photo, between wetter fen, and streamside riparian area.
A goldilocks plant that seems to like things to be not too wet and not too dry.
They are all around the edge of the fens this year, where the grasses start and the sedges end.
