Giant moth that was on the side of the gas station. It was too high up to get a better photo or to handle it.
Interesting cricket we saw while climbing the Thousand Steps Trail up the mountain.
Saw several of these during this past weekend. These are just a couple. One was a juvenile that kept testing out his wings doing small loops from a tree along the Juniata River.
I'm still trying to find some Killdeer eggs this year to photograph. No luck!
My first photo of a Carolina Wren. At least I believe that's what this was. It was a very brief encounter.
My niece caught this salamander/newt in Shirleysburg, PA as an egg before it hatched. I took this photo yesterday using a macro lens while it was in a small jar she kept it in. She has a flake of fish food in the jar for it to feed on. This specimen was probably a half inch if that. Not sure what species it is yet.
I can't find the specific species name for this sawfly. The white tipped antennae should give be a good indicator but I'm not finding it. When I took this photo in 2002 I didn't even know what a sawfly was!
I took this photo off of Fire Tower Rd on Jack's Mountain near Shirleysburg, PA back in 2001.
