Golden-threaded cordyceps. At first glance it resembles an earth tongue, but digging down into the soil shows its true nature: like other cordyceps, this one is parasitic. Rather than attacking insects, it infects underground puffballs

Not sure what species or what killed it.
This tree was found in a yard in a suburban area. I estimate its height to be 25 feet.
Yodel vocalizations - observed several COLO on the reservoir.
