BNP in north part of South Woods. On mound in dryish Maple and Beech woods on a slope. Common.
I have been calling these Polytrichum for some time now - I need to correct myself!
Saw several of these guys crossing the road as Dave B. pointed them out.

wet woods just north of tamarack bogs. Abundant to overwhelming. No flowers noted

The two Pileated Woodpeckers were digging into several trees at the back of our property. From inside our house, I could not tell the sex of each bird. They were spectacular! I went outside later and saw the oval-shaped holes that they created.
