Not an unusual sighting, but hopefully of phenological value; these and others I saw were the first turtles I saw basking this year.
The two dark ones on the left...
Possibly a red-tailed hawk? It was eating an animal along a walking path; it looked like a small dead bird, but I didn't get close enough to see clearly.
Looking out the fifth floor, north-facing windows of Northwestern Hospital's Galter Building I spotted this nest. It's on a ledge that is about 1.5x1.5 feet. Crow?
Leaf on right: deltoides
Leaf on left: ?same?
Likely a juvenile, white chest with black/dark brown mottles. Was perched in schoolyard tree eating a pigeon, then dropped it (next observation). Smooth gray back, streamlined body.
Unknown species of bat found dead on sidewalk outside of the Natural History museum in Chicago.
In an empty urban lot
Big freshly-molted ones near the bottom, with discarded skins hanging under the leaves.
On Butterfly Milkweed.
This structure was a major spiderfest.
With mating Large Milkweed Bugs.
Wild ducks on a zoo pond.
And a Mallard on the right. Wild ducks in a zoo pond. A good number in the pond and on the lawn.
Wee little bunny.
Big shiny wasps really liked these white flowers.
