This wild flower was blooming in park. This wild flower is not native to Michigan.
A co-worker discovered this nest near the staff and boater parking lot. I observed a killdeer approaching the nest after my co-worker and I left the nest. I also observed this killdeer pretending to be hurt so we would chase after it and leave the nest.
I found this during my walk around the wetland demonstration area at Milliken State Park. My co-worker said this was a praying mantis egg casing.
2 male. 1 adult & 1 immature. 1 female. All of them were trying to catch fish in the park harbor. I did see the immature male catch a fish, but was unable to keep it and was also harassed by a seagull. The males and female Goldeneye were not see together. The males were seen before the female.
I saw 2 pair of Hooded Mergansers in the park harbor this afternoon.
I saw several male and female pairs. The was one dominate male because it aggressively charge other males. The birds were also very skittish and flew away each time I wanted closer to the water. The photos that i posted with this entry are of these birds flying away.
I saw this merganser in the harbor around 3:30 pm. It had a brown head and I was told by a birder that this merganser was a female. It tried to take off from a short distance but could not. So the female merganser swam back further and took another try. It made it.

This beetle was crawling on my material walking back to the office.
One of my guests at the park today found this caterpillar on a milkweed.
I observed two kestrels flying over the park this afternoon with another park guide.
This plant is growing near the water. It appears to be growing in a group.
This thistle species is growing around the park's wetlands. It currently has seed blossoms.
While walking through the wetlands I saw 2 small frogs. Both frogs were mostly brown on their back so that made harder to identify.
Found along the harbor.
It is a native, but it can act invasive.
While I was walking out to the fishing pier I heard this bird.
This praying mantis was saw on the railing near the wetland interpretive sign.
It was fascinating that these insect were originally from Europe.
These flowers are in bloom in the part. The leaves were rough and abrasive.
I saw a Virginia Rail in the wetlands as I walked through it.
I scared a pheasant in our wetland while I walked through.
