This Snow Goose was over 2 months out of season, but was reported at this location for several days to a few weeks.
Not sure of the grass species, but pretty sure that's cattail in the background.
this vagrant Eurasian duck was the local avian celebrity for roughly 3 weeks in January.
I was able to photograph him on my 4th visit to Crown Point Bridge.
1 of 2 juveniles (3rd year?) photographed from my kayak, just below McCuen-Slang Access Area boat launch.
a terrible picture (with Horned Lark), as they were very active and would not allow a close approach
Strange duck at the Champlain Bridge. Its overall look and size suggested a female Common Goldeneye, but the details were wrong. The light breast, gray bill with black nail at the tip and dark eye all may have suggested female Bufflehead. It is possible this is a hybrid of those two species.
I posted a picture of a Scaup on this rock in Panton on Saturday. Revisiting the site today, there was still a Scaup on the rock. Same Scaup different day? It seems unbelievable considering there is a Scaup flock numbering in the thousands in that area. But, in my experience, this behavior of standing or sitting on anything is so unusual for the species, I can't help but think that this is the same bird.
