Observed in Puget Sound (saltwater) about 20 yards from shore. It frequently dives to feed.
Not the best picture, though the horsetail was found in a wetlands area, so I'm guessing its the giant horsetail.
A rather large, black and red beetle as shown in the photo. Seemed to seek cover from the rain under large, fallen maple leaves.
