Needles 4 inches, blunt, blue-green with white-striped inner surfaces.
This Western White Pine Pinus monticola is near my house. It has been diseased for several years and now is starting to be a hazard. I'll be sad to see it go, it is probably older than me.
I am not sure what killed it, I know one common disease is white pine blister rust.

This species of flower looks like it just started blooming. I only saw two of the flowers bloomed off of the trail that I spent an hour on.

A great set of tracks to find in the field. The hinds are very bird-like, with very long, thin toes. The fronts appear rather frog-like.

In a steep, exposed clay bank along the Skykomish River. The Belted kingfisher is the only species of kingfisher found in the Pacific Northwest. The size, shape and 2 channels made by the feet in the tunnel are distinctive.
Large tree with 'armpits'. Thought to be extinct but recently re-discovered in China and cultivated throughout the world from then on.
