this large eagle was flying over head at Washington Park in Anacortes. It looked large and health but only could see it flew overhead.
There are two non-native rabbit/hare species in this area, and no native species. The other possibility is the Domestic Rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus).
A bit of a puzzler. Thamnophis elegans does not usually have red flecks like this in this part of its range; this looks very different from a typical T. elegans from this area. But it has 8 upper labials, and its internasal scales are wider than long and not pointed in front, both of which are diagnostic for T. elegans.
I could only get these two lousy photos of this dark lizard before it vanished down a burrow.
