On a gray, rainy late autumn afternoon, came across this little guy skittering across the trail before heading off into the leaf litter... Not sure what species of salamander? (Western red-backed is my best guess.)
This little guy was found under a mossy rock on a very rainy day.
A small adult salamander found under a log in a moist, mature red cedar and hemlock forest near a large stream.
Found under rocks in Douglas-fir Forest
Found just off the trail under a flat piece of woody debris.
This was under my boot when I stepped back after looking at some moss. It seemed ok. Is it a baby rough skinned newt?
I found this salamander (plethodon vehiculum) under a log after dark (~9:45 pm) on a biology field trip to Camp Long near Seattle. The salamander had a stripe down its back and the log was on the side of the trail in close proximity to a pond. I estimated its size to be around 9 cm.
