"When life sends you lemons, make lemonade." I'm actually quite pleased with this particular pitcher of lemonade.

This bird flew just as I was about to snap its portrait. Managed to get a shot off, and it actually caught the bird beautifully, but it was at the very edge of the photo. Tried cropping out just the egret, but a) it didn't really have enough resolution to stand up well to that, & b) the composition was just dead as a doornail. Then I hit upon the present vertical crop, with echoes of a Japanese scroll, & it really came alive.

Found that I needed to add the white letterboxing for Flickr, or else the square thumbnail just showed water!
