Description

Abundant. The dominant understorey shrub (or tree) in the Plagianthus forest of Rangatira. Plants correspond to the "Hauraki Gulf Race" distinguished from 'usual' P. excelsum subsp. excelsum by the leaf bases usually overlapping - as shown here. Specimens flowering (most seen male). The young leaves distinctly peppery (used as a pepper substitute in curries made during our field work on the island). Vouchers lodged in AK.
