I focus on identifying only audio / sound observations of the following taxa. I make no claim to be an expert, and my blindness renders me unable to read sonograms. All apply to eastern North America; all other areas listed below should be understood as an addition to this:

  • Birds (Aves): North America, Caribbean, Europe, Middle East, with limited knowledge of some species outside these areas;
  • Crickets and katydids (order Orthoptera, suborder Ensifera): stronger on crickets with a few western species,and only some Florida species of both);
  • Cicadas (Cicadidae), primarily those in the genera Magicicada, Megatibicen, Neocicada and Neotibicen with limited knowledge of others.
  • Frogs and toads (Anura): with a few western, Caribbean and European species each;
  • Most commonly heard land mammals except bats (Chiroptera)
