GVI (Global Vision International) is a non-political, non-religious organisation, which through its alliance with over 150 project partners in over 30 countries, provides opportunities for volunteers to fill a critical void in the fields of environmental research, conservation, education and community development.

Since 2006 GVI has worked in partnership with the Kenya Wildlife Service, the Public Health Office in Shimoni, Msambweni District Council, National Museums of Kenya, Friends of Shimoni Forest, The Mkwiro dispensary committee, The Mkwiro Women’s group, Tsavo Pride, the Kenya Marine Mammal Network and a multitude of other national partners. Contributions on the ground have included the first long term marine mammal research project in Kenya in collaboration with the Kenya Wildlife Service with publications on humpback dolphin population and sustainable fish catch, extensive biodiversity inventories and monitoring in coastal forest, publications towards primate and waterbird conservation and several contributions to area conservation management plans and regional reports and assessments.
While goals are set by our partners we believe in an integrative multi-stakeholder approach. We aim to support the science based management of the Kenya Wildlife Service while raising environmental awareness through support of community groups and education. Community development focus is on support of primary school English education and support of the local health office with computer literacy training, community health outreach activities and life-skills classes on primary schools.
