Description

A live specimen of the Southern Flatcoil Snail, Polygyra cereolus, was found among mulch in a garden in the south side of Corpus Christi, Texas.

This is a common land snail and is a native species in Texas. The diameter of the shell was about 7 mm.

It was found after a rain, together with two live specimens of the non-indigenous carnivore snail, Two-toned Gulella, Huttonella bicolor (see another record in iNat), the orange-brown snail which appears in some of the photos posted here.

The snails were brought o a lab where they were photographed under a dissecting microscope. Both snails moved a little too fast to be photographed in detail be the microscope camera (an Olympus DP-70, which is a great camera, but slow for this kind of action).
