Description

Very cool spiders that weave distinctive webs, with a circular little refuge on a rock overhang, and one chunky, messy strand descending to the ground. I remembered learning about these in my spider class, but didn't actually retain anything other than they were flat, big, and lived on rocks in the southeast (though apparently also in CA and CO). They are sister to all other araneomorph spiders.
