Now for the good news story after all those weeds. For years McCormacks Bay has been dysfunctional as a piece of estuary. At low tide a barrier at the causeway stopped all the tidal water getting out at low tide. The ponded water heated and caused massive growth of sea lettuce. In the middle of planning a new channel the earthquakes came and the new replacement opening under the causeway caused the proper tidal flushing the bay always needed. But I didn't expect seagrass to appear there, that would have been too much. It has taken over the estuary bed over quite a large area, adding to the large stand over near Southshore. A very desirable outcome.
