The regular/expected hummingbird species in the Austin area are Black-chinned and Ruby-throated. Which species predominates at backyard feeders depends upon what part of the area you live in. In my area, 15 miles west of Austin, about 95% of the hummers are Black-chinned, but we get a handful of Ruby-throated as well. This is a male Black-chinned.
