Description

One of the native funnel-web weavers, both this male and a female were found together under a board near the Bacon Ranch, a newly opened portion of Pinnacles Natl. Park near the campground. According to the 1941 revision of the genus Calilena, this species is widespread in Utah, Arizona and Nevada, but this may represent the first record from California.

Both sexes were collected (with a federally issued collecting permit) and identified based on a microscopic examination of the fine details of their reproductive structures. They were collected as part of the newly initiated Pinnacles Spider Inventory Project.
