Ursine Giant Skipper
Megathymus ursus
Pine Peak,
Davis Mountains, Texas
16 June 1999
Apparently there are very few photos of this species in the wild. If you research Ursine Giant Skipper on Google, many of the illustrations provided will be these very same photos. Likewise, in the Kaufman and Brock butterfly field Guides you will find these photos as well as the newest Jeff Glassberg guide "A Swift Guide to Butterflies of North America". The white antennae are one of the key field characters of this very rare species.
These photos will be found on the Butterflies and Moths of North America web site at:
http://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/species/Megathymus-ursus
as well as several others.
