Description

Good god I am bad with fish, and apparently not so hot at photographing fish either. I think it's some kind of rockfish, but it doesn't match anything in my book. It also almost looks like a kelp greenling to me, minus the white spots and cirri. Caught in the intertidal while poke-poling at Pillar Point, near El Granada, CA. About 30-35 cm long.

Update: the fine folks at PierFishing.com have ID'd this as a female kelp greenling. Thanks! It was probably also of legal size. D'oh.
