Imperial moth

Large caterpillar per photograph found on Red Cedar (Juniperus virginiana) in pasture reverting to shrubs. No pine trees were within a kilometer of the location.

Larva collected 14-August, raised to maturity on Red Cedar, and transfered to a container of loose soil when the larva started wandering..
Pupa stored in cellar until spring when the pupa moved, breaking free from the soil.
