Description

Locality: NEW ZEALAND AK, Auckland Central, Britomart, Takutai Square (44-50 Galway St).

Habitat: Alectryon excelsus. On bark.

Identification: Rhyzobius lophanthae (Blaisdell, 1892). Male. A couple of possible larvae also observed.

NOTES: According to Tomaszewska (2010), R. lophanthae differs from R. fagus as follows:

R. lophanthae
Male genitalia: parameres about 1.2x longer than penis guide.

R. fagus
Male genitalia: parameres about 1.4x longer than penis guide.

Also:

R. lophanthae
Prosternal process 0.55x as broad as longest coxal diameter.

R. fagus
Prosternal process 0.7x as broad as longest coxal diameter.

The male genitalia of the above specimen certainly seems to agree better with R. lophanthae than the following genitalia of (presumably) R. fagus.
