What

Rock Pigeon (Columba livia)

Date

April 2015

Description

Pigeon on the wall of a building. Behind the holey wall immediately to the left of the pigeon in the picture is a nest containing young pigeons. The adult would regularly go behind to tend to the nest. It would fly to a spot of ground on the other side of the courtyard to, apparently, pick up some food/supplies and bring it back to the young.

Actually, now that I think about it, maybe this was before there were any actual young in the nest, and this bird was getting debris to build the nest in this observation; and perhaps it was only later that I saw two adults caring for audible young there. Not sure.

Here is a video of it flying back and forth between that spot and the nest, predictably so: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMFszK7eK3s
