Description

Found while backpacking in the southern Sierras. Several of these boletes were encountered growing in an almost pure Lodgepole Pine forest (elev 9,300 ft). The largest of these had a cap that was well over 10 cm across that was dry and dusky brown. The pore surface was bright yellow, and when cut open, A slow-forming blue bruising appeared. The stipe had a clear reticulation pattern. It also housed a fairly dense colony of fly larvae. Based on its location and the features I've described, I believe this may be B. edulis, but the blue bruising seems at odds with what I've found. I'm hoping that those more knowledgeable than I might add their two cents worth. @leptonia what do you think?
