Costus bracteatus was found to be fairly common along this trail. The leaves of the species here are somewhat narrower than those I have seen in Costa Rica but otherwise the plants are consistent. It was not in flower when seen in habitat but easily recognized by the pendent inflorescence with green appandaged bracts. Flower photos from cultivated plant grown from seeds collected here.
