In high school, I surveyed for Scarlet Tanagers as part of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology's Birds in Forested Landscapes program. It entailed learning their song and call, since they can be hard to spot in their usual canopy haunts, and now I often pick them out when walking through Eastern forests in the summer. Of course, I didn't even see this one until Shift said, "Ooo, cool red bird!"
