Colony (dozens of stems) in level area on east side of Cooks Mountain, in rich hardwood forest. Canopy includes Fagus grandifolia, Liquidambar styraciflua, and Quercus spp., understory includes Asimina triloba and Ilex opaca, and the herbaceous layer includes Athyrium filix-femina and Sanicula sp.
