Description

This was the most amazing encounter I have ever had with Macromia illinoiensis. We found 37 individuals hanging up in an area of about 20 X 10 feet, about the size of a standard automobile. It had been raining and cold (55 degrees) for a day and a half, and finally we got some sun and the Macromias were everywhere. I saw as many as 10 on one twig. Several images posted including a shot of a single individual for ID purposes, but the shots showing multiple individuals are the real treat! I have often had people tell me they have never seen a Macromia perch....well, I saw 37 of them perched in one tiny area today at the same time.
