Here's Nucella ostrina, or Northern Striped Dogwinkle. There are three very common dogwinkles on our beaches-- frilled, channelled, and Northern Striped. Only the frilled species grows large. This one was a bit over 1" long. Another photo shows a few with different coloration and sizes.
