Date

Description

Douglas-fir tree identified by deeply furrowed bark. Located on the trail of shadows in Longmire in Mt Rainier national park, Southwest side of Mt. Rainier. Old growth forest stand dominated by Douglas-fir, Western redcedar, Western hemlock, and Pacific silver fir. Deep snow on the ground at the time (year round?). Stand adjacent to Longmire hotsprings, rich iron upwellings, and open space. Evidence of beavers, and uprooted trees from windthrow probably due to edge effect with hotspring meadow.
