A Six-spotted Fishing Spider on the surface of Farm Pond in Trustom Pond NWR.
A Deer Tick (Ixodes scapularis) near East Matunuck State Beach. This is an adult male.
A Giant Vinegaroon on the driveway. Its long whip-tail had been broken off.
This one was just about 2 inches long. I observed two of these while hiking
It was about 4 inches long I observed 7 of them along the trail at various points
it was about 1 inch long and fairly pink traveling across a gravel road
Very likely Leucauge venusta.
These are the cutest little things (yes, even for spiders)...I almost kept him, because he was inside the house, but decided to put him out on the porch, instead. Hopefully this spider will find a mate and make more little bold jumping spiders. :)
Bio geek shot: two of the three major segmented phyla (Arthropoda and Annelida) crossing paths during some early spring gardening -- with the third (Chordata) implicitly represented by the human behind the lens. :-) The segmented body plan may have arisen independently in each of the three, starting from different unsegmented ancestors.
Found under a large flat rock. This centipede looked like an earthworm at first glance...long and thin. Geophilomorpha?
In an effort to increase awareness of the 'lesser-studied' terrestrial arthropods, here is a repository for all sightings of Arachnids (spiders, scorpions, harvestmen, vinegaroons, etc.) and Myriapods (Centipedes, Millipedes, and allies) in North America (Mexico included).
