Toad-Headed Agamas - is a complex Central-Asian genus of Agamid lizards (Phrynocephalus Kaup, 1825). Toad-Headed Agamas Inhabit deserts and semi-deserts of Central Asia. They are known from Mongholia and China on the East to Armenia and Turkey on the Wesr. As far as in South Russia on the North and Arabian Peninsula on the South.

All Toad-Headed Agamas are small predators feeding on small arthropods. The common hunting strategy of Toad-Headed Agamas called "sit and wait". They tend to move a little throughout their life and utilize abundant local resources.

All Toad-Headed Agamas are known as masters of camouflage. Their color and pattern, along wit their ability to get burried by sand make them hard to see. However relatively low speed and short run distances make Toad-Headed Agamas vulnerable towards predators and pouching. This genus includes few highly threatened species, such as Horvath's Toad-headed Agama, and Persian Toad-headed Agama.

This project has been started as an initiative of the Conservation Programme for Persian Toad Headed Agama ( www.phrynocephalus.narod.ru ).

But later, given narrow distribution range and low interest towards Persian Toad Headed Agamas, we decided to broaden up our limits to the level of the genus Phrynocephalus.

The goal of this project is to document geographic extend of about 42 taxa within the genus Phrynocephalus; (2) 2 develop a tools that will (1) provide scientists with the data on geographical distribution of these unique lizards, (3) provide conservation managers with the access to data on the spatial distribution of these lizards, that will allow more efficient and transparent management decision making, and operations.
