A “botanyblitz” is when a group descends on an area and attempts to document all plants present; It’s related to a bioblitz, which documents all living things. We have been invited by Annette Reynolds, Director of Manitou Cave of Alabama, near Fort Payne, to conduct an botanyblitz of this floristically rich location. This will be an excellent exercise in plant observation and identification; some of us will be the identifiers, others will be scribes - who will document plants we observe. Everyone will be charged with observing this botanically fascinating area. We will have the added pleasure of being led on an informative tour of the prehistoric cave by Annette. A portion of the tuition from this class will be donated to the ongoing conservation efforts of this special place.
