Taxonomic notes: Nascimento et al. (2006) proposed that Eupemphix fuscomaculatus be considered as Pleurodema fuscomaculata. Specimens previously assigned to Physalaemus fuscomaculatus are now considered to be Physalaemus marmoratus.

This species is widely distributed in the Pantanal floodplain and also occur in urban environments from cities located in the the northeastern and northwestern borders of the Pantanal, including Cuiabá, Caceres, and Poconé, among others. It frequently occurs together with - although in lower abundance than - Physalaemus albonotatus, in recently flooded, open areas.
