Common Lime Butterfly, resting on a lantana leaf on the fence between the ICRISAT-Patancheru campus' west perimeter road and Patancheru tank. Initially mis-identified as an unidentified nymphalid (brush-footed) butterfly due to obscuring of the wing outline by a lantana leaf in the foreground of the photo.
White-Faced Black-Throated Weaver (adult male in breeding plumage).
Published reference for this species at this site, which includes color photos:
Pittie, Aasheesh, Siraj Taher, and C. Tom Hash. 1999. Notes on the breeding plumage of male Blackbreasted Weavers Ploceus benghalensis near Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. Journal of the Bombay Natural Historical Society 96:187–194.
I've also seen this plumage on birds in a marsh near Golconda Fort in Hyderabad, and in a field of millet in the Bhind-Morena tract of Madhya Pradesh
Rose-Ringed Parakeet in nest hole in wall of "Manmool Castle"
Spot-Billed Pelican; the usual two resident birds, one of which has an injured wing and cannot fly
Large Grey Babbler, note distinctive lighter color of sides of tail
Wood Sandpiper, small flock of recently returned migrants on rice paddies to the east of the central paved road
Common Mongoose on an internal road near Red Lake South, just east of Manmool village on the ICRISAT Research Station campus at Patancheru
Ruddy-Breasted Crake; adult walking across the road between Patancheru Tank and the marsh on the east side of the perimeter road
This project is intended to further document the wild and domesticated/cultivated flora and fauna ... of the ICRISAT-Patancheru research station, and its immediate vicinity including the Patancheru Tank, which together provide important "green-lung" space (>1394 ha) in the western portion of Greater Hyderabad, just inside the Jawaharlal Nehru Outer Ring Road.
