This project collects together formal surveys of insects and other invertebrates in the wider Christchurch area. All observations in the project need to specify the survey method used, survey duration and whether all taxa collected have been uploaded.
The purpose of the project is pull together all scientific quality survey data in Christchurch on invertebrates to monitor changes in time and space. Invertebrates are diverse in species and lifestyles and are short lived. These things make them excellent indicators of environmental change.
This project was initiated using funds from the Brian Mason Trust to Lincoln University postgraduate student Denise Ford. Denise is re-surveying Christchurch invertebrates in 2013–2014, repeating a 2001 survey carried out by Richard Toft.
Specimens will be added as the collection is sorted.
