Slime mold fuiting bodies observed on a wet, decomposing stick after recent rains. Looks like a packet of hotdogs. Stalks are barely present.
Fragile fruiting on a mossy log, though it covered a large area (about 30cm x 45 cm). The white part disintegrates when touched, and has a pleasant vegetable-like smell.
According to MycoBank http://www.mycobank.org/BioloMICS.aspx?Table=Mycobank&Name=Ceratiomyxa%20porioides&ExactMatch=T and Encyclopedia of Life, the accepted name for this slime mold is C. porioides, rather than just a variation of C. fruticulosa.
'tis the season for slime molds to go on the move.
