This is an interactive field guide for a rare Tamarack tree swamp in a rich fen, located on the eastern edge of the Twin Cities of Minneapolis/St. Paul. It features plants that are found in the fen (along a boardwalk) and on its perimeter (a woodland trail). It also includes birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and insects found in Woodbury's Tamarack Nature Preserve (www.tamaracknaturepreserve.org).
The purpose of this guide is for people of all ages and interest levels to gain an appreciation for nature, specifically for a Minnesota wetland, and to collaborate in order to become part of a community of friends of this Preserve.
Anyone who visits the area is invited to add their observations to the project. Over time, we will have a record of phenology and see when and where these observations are most likely to be found.
