Tod Creek Watershed is located in the District of Saanich, Vancouver Island, BC Canada and is an area of ~2500 acres. Much of the watershed has been converted to agricultural use with some residential areas yet there is considerable standing forest with a wide range of biodiversity. Tod Creek originates at Maltby Lake, still pristine with rare populations of fresh water jelly fish and sponges. A constant population of large mammals including cougar, bear, and the occasional wolf are found in the upland areas. Upland areas are forested with Coastal Douglas Fir, Garry Oak, and Arbutus which support a great variety of birds from Band Tailed Pidgeons to Rufus Hummingbirds,Nighthawks, Great Horned Owls. A significant amphibian population includes Pacific Chorus Frogs, Redlegged Frogs, and numerous salamanders.
An overall species inventory has not been conducted so we welcome public participation in the collection of information.
This watershed is at risk from urban development and agricultural conversion of streams and wetlands and will benefit from a wider awareness of it environmental attributes and value.
