A common Nerodia species in La Rue Pine Hills.
I know these can intergrade with other nerodia, and this snake was outside of the range described in Texas Snakes, but this snake showed NO pattern and a bright yellow belly. i've had trouble identifying nerodia subspecies in the past an d hope yall can shed some light on this one
Dead on the road
I thought that this picture of the pair might be interesting. Unfortunately, the contrast of the sun/shade degraded the quality of the picture.
Heavy-bodied snake resembling a cottonmouth but not a viper. This one I discovered inside our guest cabin, and I learned to never leave the storm door open, even to let it close on its own.

This large flavigaster was found swimming in a salt marsh. The snake was beneath the water, slithering through pond weeds. It had recently eaten a meal.

Yellow-bellied Watersnake, Allen's Lake, Claiborne Co., Mississippi
This record gleaned from field journals I kept between 1968 and 2002. The first 6500+ records I posted on iNat had photo documentation, but now I am posting these records which do not have photos just to provide the data point for the species and location as best as I can for the historical record. I will also add a number to represent the approximate number of individuals of this species I recorded on the given day if more than one.
