Scientific Name: Psammophilus dorsalisCommon Names: South Indian Rock Agama, Saxicolus Lizard, Rock Lizard, Rock DragonPsammophilus dorsalis was described by Gray in 1831 as Agama dorsalis basing on specimens from India (Smith 1935). They are endemic to India and are widely distributed in southern India. It is known to occur in southern Eastern Ghats and the Western Ghats southward to Kanyakumari in the extreme south of India. This species is a rock-dwelling agama (Smith 1935, Sharma 2002). From its wide distribution, it is inferred that this species is found in a variety of habitats, including dry and moist forests, and shrublands. They are mainly found in Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chattisgarh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu.
