The skink genus Euprepes belongs to the subfamily Lygosominae. It was initially established as Euprepis, but the name was subsequently corrected; it is not clear, however, whether this correction is indeed acceptable. For some time in recent years, this genus included the Afro-Malagasy mabuyas, but these species, initially moved here from Mabuya, actually belong to Trachylepis and are now placed there.
