Brown above, yellow underneath, dark wings.
An adult bat with the below morphometric measurements
Mass = 28g, Forearm =50mm, Tibia = 21.5mm, Tail = 34mm
3 individuals trapped at dawn in mist nets set over water on west side of Kartong Bird Observatory to catch Palearctic shorebirds and herons. Each bat was light yellow in colour and similar size or slightly larger than Gambian epauletted fruit bat but without white marks and with obvious banana shaped tragus. In each case it took two people to safely extract and release the bats due to their size and aggression.
Caught regularly as by-catch during evening mist netting as part of bird banding project. Some were bright yellow which suggested S. dinganii and others had buff underparts suggesting S. leucogaster and others like this were intermediate pale yellow or yellowish grey
By-catch from work banding Palearctic migrant birds
Accidently trapped in bird net
This bat crawled out of the ceiling :-)
Roosting 2m high on trunk of large tree. Roughly 10cm long (similar size to what I would expect of S. dinganii).
