Walking stick like - Timema californicum - Male Female
On piece of wood furniture outside in an open grassland area surrounded by mixed oak forest. Approx. 2 cm long not including antennae. Female. Assuming it is T. californicum because of location.

looks like California Timema but with a different tail end
it fell in my hair, and stayed pretty still (perhaps stunned?) after it was removed
This area is pretty typical Diablan chaparral, with numerous species of manzanita, coyotebrush, ceanothus, and probably some oaks, which would match T. shepardi and T. californicum according to http://bugguide.net/node/view/50852
