This herb is growing among long grass beside the Whatatiri track in the Waitakere range, a long way from any gardens. It is about 2m wide and 0.8m high, and consists of about ten red-green stalks with long leaves having prominent veins and lobed to the mid-vein near the base, and small leaves near the tips; the stalks branch and there are terminal inflorescences. The flowers are pale cream and have 4 petals, 4 sepals, are actinomorphic, and about three cm diameter. There are quite a few buds still developing at this time, above the open flowers.
